Forest County History to be discussed

The Rhinelander District Library is hosting the author Helen L. Laird on Monday, May 7th at 6:30 p.m.  Helen is the author of the book titled A Mind of Her Own : Helen Connor Laird and Family, 1888-1982.  Helen Connor Laird was the daughter of W.D. (William Duncan) Connor, who established in Connor Land and Logging in the Town of Laona when Forest County was still “at the end of the world”.  

So far I’m only two chapters into the book but already I’ve discovered a few Forest county names:  Baltuses, Aschenbrenners and Maedenwalds.

Terry Thompson, president of the Forest County Historical Society, emailed me some photos this week of the Museum before it became a Museum.  What a difference hard work and determination make!  By the way, the Museum is scheduled to open in May.  Persons interested in helping out can contact me or attend the next meeting of the Historical Society on Thursday, April 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum.
