Preserving the history of Forest County, Wisconsin since 1970.

Join members of the Forest County Historical Society as we celebrate some of the county’s earliest settlers at the Annual Kentuck Day Festival.  The celebration will take place on Saturday, July 30th in Downtown Crandon.  Stop by our booth in the Courthouse Square, or visit our Museum (One block west of the Celebration) to take a peek at our historical displays, books for sale, and lots more!

The Wisconsin Historical Society is pleased to announce that it has awarded over $10,000 to 18 of its affiliated local historical society through its 2007 mini-grant program.
The Forest County Historical and Genealogical Society has received a mini-grant in the amount of $700 to purchase archival supplies in order to improve the storage conditions of the Society’s collections as well as increase the public’s access to documents and photographs that highlight the early history of Forest County.

This grant program is made possible due to the generosity of a donor to the Wisconsin Historical Society who has an interest in supporting local historical societies, schools and cooperative efforts between these groups.  As a result of this gift, this is the third time the Wisconsin Historical Society has been able to provide grants to support historical work at the community level.

Terry Thompson, president of the Forest County Historical Society, emailed me some photos this week of the Museum before it became a Museum.  What a difference hard work and determination make!  By the way, the Museum is scheduled to open in May.  Persons interested in helping out can contact me or attend the next meeting of the Historical Society on Thursday, April 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum.
